Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan 2035 - Overview

Over the next year, TxDOT will develop the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan 2035, which will represent TxDOT's long-term transportation goals. These goals include maintenance of the existing system, reduction of congestion throughout the state, enhancement of safety and promotion of economic development.

Scope

The purpose of the plan is to provide an inventory of all transportation modes and address the need for improvements to:

  • roadways,
  • pedestrian and bicycle facilities,
  • transit,
  • freight and passenger rail,
  • airports,
  • water ports,
  • pipelines, and
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems.

The analysis will help Texas plan for improved connectivity between modes and between communities. It will also enable our multimodal system to operate more efficiently. We want and need the public's perspectives and suggestions to guide future decisions.

The Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan will encompass a 24-year time frame (2011-2035) and will include the following elements:

  • Analysis of the existing transportation system that includes:
    • A description/inventory of existing systems
    • An analysis of current systems usage
    • A description of current needs
    • A description of existing funding sources
  • Analyze the future needs by mode
  • Project the future funding by mode
  • Address the eight planning factors required by 23 USC ยง 135 (d)(1)
