The Seymour Re-route project for US 277 is the second largest project in the
Wichita Falls District's history at just under $44-million. The Elevated US 287
freeway through Wichita Falls cost just under $47-million dollars. Zachry
Construction, the same contractor building the Falls Flyover Interchange in
Wichita Falls, won the contract for the Seymour Re-route project.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held May 16th, 2006 near the re-route site, paving
the way for construction. The project provides for 3 miles of new four lane
divided highway to be built just East and South of Seymour. It includes
overpasses along with exit and entrance ramps at several key points in the city.
The plans call for a new bridge over the Brazos River. The current bridge will
remain in use as the Business 277/Main Street crossing.
Construction is schedule to last two and a half years. This expansion of US 277
through Seymour is the second of nine projects planned by the Wichita Falls
District of TxDOT.
As part of the Texas Trunk System, US 277 is being improved from Wichita Falls
to Abilene. The Wichita Falls District will be overseeing 57 miles of the
expansion.
