Geographic Limits

From MP 61, the BNSF gains access into Houston via the UPRR to Belt Junction. At Teague, the BNSF Houston Subdivision continues to Ft. Worth via the BNSF DFW Subdivision. Fifty-five miles of the BNSF Houston Subdivision track are within the study area.

Rail Traffic

Predominantly a single-track mainline with minimal sidings, the BNSF operates approximately 12 trains daily in a bidirectional manner. Along the Houston Subdivision, the BNSF services the North Houston Industrial Park, the Casey Industrial Site, and the Casey Storage-in-Transit (SIT) Yard.

Characteristics

At-grade crossings have a potential for liability for rail, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic. The number of these crossings could be minimized to reduce the potential for accidents and to promote public safety. The following table displays one roadway that may be improved and the associated cost:

Identified Improvements
Class Estimated Cost Estimated Public Benefit
Class 3 Improvements (Grade Separations) $11,000,000 $870,000
Total Identified Improvements $11,000,000 $870,000
