Consisting of approximately 17 miles of Union Pacific owned and operated track, the Freeport Subdivision and the Freeport Industrial Lead were constructed by the Velasco Terminal Railroad in the 1890's.
The Freeport Subdivision parallels CR 288 with terminus points at Freeport Junction in Angleton, near the CR 288 railroad overpass, and near Main Street in Lake Jackson.
In Lake Jackson, the Freeport Subdivision becomes the Freeport Industrial Lead and continues to the Port of Freeport.
Rail Traffic
A majority of the train traffic on the Freeport Subdivision is petrochemical trains serving the likes of Dow Chemical. Throughout the entire line segment, trains are restricted to speeds of between 10 and 20 miles per hour.
