Portable Buildings Single-Trip Permits

TxDOT issues a single-trip permit for the transportation of
portable buildings and portable building compatible cargo. A permit
is required for a vehicle or vehicle combination transporting one or
more portable buildings and portable building compatible cargo that
exceeds
Texas legal size and weight limits.
How Do I Apply?
Customers may use
Online Permits (TxPROS)to apply for and receive a permit,
submit
Form 106, Permit Fax Application by fax (512) 465-3565,
or use
Form 1700, Texas Self-Issue Application and Permit by
telephone (800) 299-1700. Customers must include payment
information when applying for a permit.
Fees
The fee for this permit is $15. If portable building unit compatible cargo is
transported, the department will also collect an additional fee equal to the
regular single-trip permit fee.

Permit fees are nonrefundable.
Escort Requirements
- A portable building unit or portable building compatible cargo with a
width exceeding 16' must have a front escort vehicle on two-lane roadways
and a rear escort vehicle on roadways of four or more lanes.
- A portable building unit or portable building compatible cargo with a
width exceeding 18' must have front and rear escorts on all roadways.
- The escort vehicle must have one red 16" square flag mounted on each of
the four corners of the vehicle, a sign mounted on the front and rear of the
vehicle displaying the words "WIDE LOAD" in black letters at least 8" high
with a brush stroke at least 1.41" wide against a yellow background, and an
amber light or lights, visible from both front and rear, mounted on top of
the vehicle and be two simultaneously flashing lights or one rotating beacon
of not less than 8" in diameter.
