You must obtain an oversize/overweight permit from TxDOT if your vehicle and/or load exceed Texas legal size and weight limits.
Super Heavy single-trip permits are available for the movement of vehicles and loads which exceed 254,300 pounds (total gross weight), or exceed the maximum permittable weight on any axle or axle group, or exceed 200,000 pounds with less than 95 feet of axle spacing.
How Do I Apply?
Submit form 305, a written request with the exact beginning and ending points in relation to a state highway, a copy of the signed contract or purchase order between the shipper and manufacturer/purchaser, and a loading diagram by facsimile (512) 465-3549 or by mail. Mail application packets to TxDOT-MCD, 125 E. 11th, Austin, Texas 78701.
Loading diagrams must specify the following:
Any other measurements as may be needed to verify that the weights of the over dimension load is adequately distributed among the various axle groups in the amounts shown on the loading diagram.
Applications and supporting documentation must be sent six to eight weeks before the permit is required, unless an existing pre-approved route is on file.
Motor Carrier Registration Requirements
Texas motor carrier registration or Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is required.
Vehicle Registration Requirements
Proper vehicle registration must be obtained through the Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) or your county tax office. Vehicles must be registered in accordance with Transportation Code, Chapter 502.

It is the responsibility of the permit holder to contact utility companies, telephone companies, television cable companies, or other entities when it is necessary to raise or lower an overhead wire, traffic signal, street light, cable, sign, or other overhead obstruction. The permit holder is responsible for providing the advance notice and coordination required by each entity.
