Occupational Safety Director

Jerral Wyer was named director of the Occupational Safety Division (OCC) on April 1, 2010. He began his TxDOT career in the OCC in 1991 as program administrator and was responsible for implementing safety procedures and industrial hygiene standards in field operations. In 1992, Wyer became the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Section Director where he oversaw and managed the industrial hygiene, employee safety and vehicle safety operations.

Wyer held this position for 19 years and supported TxDOT operations in developing, incorporating and administering numerous safety programs that have reduced employee injuries and vehicle collisions. TxDOT's safety-minded culture is a model for other Departments of Transportation around the country. He also serves as the department representative and is a member of the North American Association of Transportation Safety & Health Officials and the Associated General Contractors Safety Task Force.

Wyer was born and raised in Edna and earned his bachelor of education degree from Texas A & M University in 1986.

Wyer also serves as interim director of the Travel Information Division.
