Note: The Motor Carrier Division (MCD) and the Oversize/Overweight program responsibilities will move from TxDOT to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles by Jan. 1, 2012.
The division is responsible for the safe and efficient routing and issuing of permits for the transport of oversize/overweight loads in Texas. MCD also enforces permit-related administrative rules, conducts investigations, works with customers to ensure compliance and, when necessary, assesses penalties for size/weight violations.
In 2011, MCD issued more than 590,000 permits and collected more than $113 million in permit fees, which was deposited into the State’s Highway Fund and the General Revenue Fund.
